- Friedreich's Ataxia (13)
Ataxia From Greek α- (used as a negative prefix) + -τάξις (order), meaning "lack of order". It is a neurological sign and symptom consisting of gross incoordination of muscle movements.[1] Ataxia is an aspecific clinical manifestation implying dysfunction of parts of the nervous system that coordinate movement, such as the cerebellum. Several possible causes exist for these patterns of neurological dysfunction.
The "International Ataxia Awareness Day" is observed on September 25th each year. [2]
"Dystaxia" refers to difficulty in controlling voluntary movements.[3] The term "titubation" is closely related to ataxia, and refers to the act of moving in an uncoordinated manner.[4][5]
